Who We Are

Our Mission & Values

Beyond Us was designed to help you and I move beyond the resources of a lone or limited entity. Our mission is to bring together individuals and organizations in order to go beyond themselves to create a greater good within the community.

Examples of focused effort include areas of health, education, poverty, mental health, the disabled, parks/recreation, arts, elderly and vulnerable populations.

Who we work with:

We do not work with individuals or organizations that are prejudice 
of other religions, 
race, or demographics.

For groups lacking 501(c)3 status, or financial oversight, Beyond Us can make provision for the organization to nest within the Beyond Us non-profit structure.  For more information please contact us.

The Team

Each of them brings a unique set of skills and expertise to our organization.

Steve Murray

Founder
Is a founding board member and president of Beyond Us. He is also the lead Pastor at Real Life Church in Covington, Washington. For over 35 years, Steve's inclusive approach to meeting real needs and solving social issues, has made him a great initiator of community goodwill. He is known for his ability to work with diverse groups and facilitate collaborative projects.

Steve created "Better World Initiatives" a benevolent arm of The Pacific Institute. His efforts have helped marginalized populations and 3rd world change agents obtain access to the world's most effective cognitive psychology based empowerment tools.

Steve and his wife Tina have been married 36 years; have 3 grown sons and two grandchildren. In his spare time, he is a wire sculptor and abstract painter. His inspiration art is often paired with his faith based and secular speaking engagements.

Debby Hartsock

President
Has over 30 years of experience in executive-level leadership in the IT industry, building and leading global teams to support clients such as Microsoft, Boeing and Expedia.

After an early retirement from the corporate world, Debby began working with non-profit organizations helping to bridge the needs in the community with businesses that want to "give back", both in financial contribution and employee volunteerism.

Debby has become increasingly involved in volunteering in the Covington/Maple Valley communities through serving as Director and President on several non-profit boards.  
Debby and her husband, Lloyd, have lived in Covington for 11 years and have 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren.

Rick Heinz

Vice  President
Grew up in Tacoma Washington. He graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology in 1987. He worked at the Boeing Company for 30 years as an engineer and primarily worked as a project manager overseeing technical projects and overseeing teams. Rick has lived in Maple Valley Washington for 10 years.

He loves the outdoors and loves mountain biking and trail running. Rick is active member of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance involved with local land owners to maintain and build trails in the Maple Valley/ Black Diamond area. 

He has played an active role working with King County Parks on trail development and forest stewardship. Rick has been married for over 25 years to his wife Traci.

Alexi McAlpine

Treasurer
Alexi McAlpine is a CPA specializing in accounting services for nonprofit organizations and small businesses.
Her 25 plus years of experience in finance has led her to help many individuals, families, churches and small companies move from unorganized debt to strong stewardship and profitability.

Alexi is also a trained facilitator of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. 
Alexi and her husband Ed have been married for 30 years, have one grown daughter and live in Covington, Washington.
